One Collapse Brings Selling of Patents Dec 2004
Commerce One
was once a promising company and a high flying stock. Now, it is
being parted out like an old Chevy. They sold all 27 patents this
month, but not before offering them to Oracle, Google etc, no one
moved on it. Now, people in the web services area are becoming
concerned about the use of the patents in the wrong hands. It is
possible to use these patents as a way to bring lawsuits to anyone
using XML web services unless they cough up fees. It is not clear
what the use will be, according to eweek (see eweek)
the purchaser of the technology rights will announce plans in May,
2005. .
