Marketing your website is both an art and a science. Depending on your budget, you can market your site through both traditional methods and internet based methods. For example, you can promote your site using banners and links. The most inexpensive method is to create your own banners and text links and then find similar sites (with subjects like yours) and offer to trade links with the webmaster (usually found at the bottom of the page, or just email anyone on the site and ask - want to trade) or offer to pay to place your link on their site. The reason for this has to do with how search engines work. Every time your link is found on another site, it is counted like a vote, the more votes, the closer to the top ten search results you will be. The top ten is the ideal position since most people choose from the first page of their search results. If you can reach the top ten - then you are succeeding. You can also pay a service, such as sharesale or valueclick to create your banners and set up a pay-per-click program for your site.
